SUPERIOR COURT
(GENERAL JURISDICTION)

1. The Superior Court has the power to hear two general types of cases:

A. CRIMINAL MATTERS:

1. All criminal offenses that occur within Pima County or any city within Pima County.

2. Primarily felony offenses (versus misdemeanor offenses where maximum penalty is six months in jail and $2,500 fine), but Court
may hear some misdemeanor offenses as it has concurrent (or
shared) jurisdiction with Justice and City Courts.

a. Superior Court judges also have the power to hear appeals of criminal cases heard in inferior courts (Justice and City Courts).

B. CIVIL MATTERS:

1. All lawsuits where the amount in dispute is over $5,000.00

2. All domestic relations cases (child support enforcement, divorce, paternity matters and domestic violence restraining orders.)

3. All probate (wills), guardianship (usually of minors), conservatorship (estate manager), and mental health matters.

4. Superior Court judges also have the power to hear appeals of civil cases heard in inferior courts.
